3 Days - “Civilization and Sin” - A Trip to Langfang

Situated between two of China’s powerhouses, Beijing and Tianjin, Langfanggreendragon is in an ideal location to make a weekend getaway for the visitor wishing to see an up and coming city with a different flavor. Langfang’s population boom is relatively recent. Until the early 1970s, the city was more or less known as a hick town. After China Petroleum Pipeline relocated one its hub to the city in 1973, however, the population grew exponentially, along with the job market (some have even begun to call Langfang the “Silicon Valley of China”). Langfang has surprisingly stayed relatively green, filled with parks, including the very large “Nature Park” in Langfang’s Northwest quarter. To the city’s Northeast is the “Oriental University City,” a recently constructed pocket of civilization and education that is filled with thousands of students, over 30 universities, a mini version of L’Arc De Triomphe, and a main avenue that is lined with plaques dedicated to history’s “pillars of civilization.” Langfang City’s main attraction is the pedestrian street filled with shops and restaurants. The buildings are modeled after European architecture, and the street itself is the longest pedestrian street in China at 5km in length. During the daytime it is a relatively quiet area; the real action, however, takes place once the Sun tucks itself below the horizon, providing the visitor with a much different side of China than he/she will find in Beijing or Tianjin.
