13 Days – Gardens, Glory and Good People: Suzhou, Nanjing and Anfeng

Day 1 Arrival in Beijing. After check into hotel, get familiar with surroundings in Hou Hai area of old Beijing filled with hutongs and alleyways. In the evening visit local’s home for dinner. Lunch (depending on flight), and dinner Hotel in Hou Hai area Transportation from airport. Walk around Hou Hai. Transportation to local’s home.
Day 2 In the morning visit the world’s largest public square, Tian’anmen Square. Afterwards go to the Forbidden City. After lunch we will take you to the Olympic Park to see Beijing’s newest addition of stunning architecture, the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Hotel in Hou Hai area Public Transportation to sites visited. (Tian’anmen, Forbidden City, Olympic Park)
Day 3 On this day we’ll go to the Great Wall where you’ll become “real men (and women).” Wake up early and we’ll drive to the Jinshanling portion of the Great Wall. From there we hike to the Simatai section. These are two of the wilder sections of the Great Wall. Breakfast, Lunch (picnic on Great Wall), and Dinner Hotel in Hou Hai Transportation to Great Wall
Day 4 In the morning, we’ll go visit Wangfujing street. This is representative of the new Beijing, with a huge pedestrian street. After lunch, we’ll visit a park and try a go with locals playing the diabolo. This is a great place to interact with locals. In the evening we’ll board a train bound for Nanjing, one of China’s ancient capitals. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (on train) Sleeper on train Public transportation from Wangfujing to diabolo park. Day 5 After arriving in Nanjing and checking into your hotel, we’ll climb the Purple Mountain behind Nanjing’s Xuanwu Lake. On Purple Mountain we can visit Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum, the father of Modern China. In the evening we will visit Confuscius Temple area to enjoy the night scenery, shopping, and eating. Day 6 For our second day in Nanjing we’ll start the morning by visiting the Nanjing Massacre site. In the afternoon visit Yuejiang Tower, one of the most spectacular structures in Nanjing. During the evening we’ll go to Hunan Road pedestrian street to enjoy the nightlife. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Hotel in Nanjing Transportation to sites visited
Day 7 On this day we’ll head to a spot that is surely not on any other travel guide, Anfeng town, part of Dongtai City in Jiangsu Province. Here we’ll stay with a host family for two nights, getting to experience a true Chinese way of life. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Homestay in Anfeng Transportation from Nanjing to Anfeng
Day 8 This is the second night of our homestay in Anfeng. We’ll see local sites of interest, and possibly even visit a school on this day. This town doesn’t get many foreign visitors, so expect to be the center of attention. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Homestay in Anfeng Transportation around Anfeng
Day 9 We’ll travel in the morning from Anfeng to Suzhou, China’s Silk capital. After arriving and checking into your hotel, we’ll visit one of Suzhou’s many famous parks, the Humble Administrator’s Garden. In the evening we’ll go to an older section of town filled with restaurants and ancient alleyways. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Hotel in Suzhou Transportation from Anfeng to Suzhou
Day 10 In the morning we will visit Suzhou’s famed Tiger Hill, a local scenic spot in Suzhou. After lunch, we’ll go to another garden, the Lingering Garden. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Hotel in Suzhou Transportation to Tiger Hill and Lingering Garden
Day 11 We’ll start the day by visiting the Suzhou Silk Museum. Famed as being the Silk Capital of China, this museum gives an excellent introduction to the development and history of the industry. We’ll take an evening train back to Beijing which will arrive the following morning. Day 12 After arrival and check in, we’ll give you a free day. This is a good day to do some last minute shopping at one of Beijing’s many markets (i.e. Silk Market, Pearl Market, Panjiayuan antique market, etc). In the evening we’ll hold a party in your honor. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Hotel in Hou Hai N/A
Day 13 After breakfast, the tour concludes. It’s off to the airport and back home. Hope you had a wonderful time! Breakfast N/A Transportation to Airport
