Diabolo
Learn How To Use the Diabolo In One Afternoon
The diabolo is a word that many of us are unfamiliar with, but once we see it we immediately recognize its strange shape and sound. It is a game played which is played with a sort of top that shaped as two cones joined together. Some are different and only have one cone, with the stick protruding from the bottom of the cone. Players use string and sticks (originally bamboo) to fling the cone into the air, around their heads, under their legs, etc. It was invented in China and introduced to England by means of missionaries in the 18th century. If one is lucky you can see people of all ages practicing the diabolo in parks in China, especially in the Jiangsu province. Join Chinafaces for an afternoon of trials and errors as you learn a few basic steps getting introduced to the Diabolo. We will visit a local park where some older diabolo masters gather everyday to practice and hone their skills. In addition to diabolo, some of the participants practice using whips and Tai Chi ball. Feel free to try them all. At the end, you will take home your very own diabolo to impress your friends and family with.
Because China Reflection is devoted to low impact ecotourism, we have arranged our gathering points near metro stations for your convenience. Despite being overcrowded at times, Beijing has a safe and efficient metro system. By using this system, guests help to support public transportation, as well as having a chance to experience real Beijing from a more environmentally conscious viewpoint. From our meeting points we try to walk, ride bicycles or use public transport as much as possible to get to the final destination.
