Mahjong
Learn To Play Mahjong At a Local Tea Shop
With a
history of 2000 years, Mahjong is another great game originating from China. During the time of Confuscius in the Kingdom of Wu, legend has it that an utterly bored (and apparently very inventive) princess created the game. Originally she used pieces of bamboo to play with her maids. Should she walk down a street in any town or city in modern China today, she would be proud to hear the sound of the fruits of her boredom as people shuffle and mix the modern plastic pieces that make up mahjong today. Often associated with gambling, mahjong sometimes gets a bad reputation, but when played amongst friends, it is just common fun. With rules similar to Rummy, Mahjong will not be too difficult to learn. Join China Reflection and some locals as they teach you how to play mahjong for an afternoon that will surely exercise your mind once more. Just watch your bets, please!
Because China Reflection is devoted to low impact ecotourism, we have arranged our gathering points near metro stations for your convenience. Despite being overcrowded at times, Beijing has a safe and efficient metro system. By using this system, guests help to support public transportation, as well as having a chance to experience real Beijing from a more environmentally conscious viewpoint. From our meeting points we try to walk, ride bicycles or use public transport as much as possible to get to the final destination.
