Introduction to Nunchakus (shuang jie gun)
Join China Reflection and a local wushu (Chinese kungfu) instructor for an evening of learning the beginning steps of how to use nunchakus. Wushu incorporates numerous styles of kung-fu. Some of the styles involve the use of weapons (i.e. nunchakus), while others involve only bare-handed combat and exercises. Most people only became aware of the nunchuks because of Bruce Lee, but they are unaware that the nunchakus originally come from Russia where they were used to flail rice. From there they spread to Japan and China, Japan’s nunchakus being more octagonal in shape, while China’s are more rounded at the bottom. Nunchakus are quite fast and dangerous, but easy to learn a basic few steps if you have the right instructor. At China Reflection we pair you with a young, modest instructor from Henan who can dazzle you with his lightning speed and patiently teach you some simple moves.
Because China Reflection is devoted to low impact ecotourism, we have arranged our gathering points near metro stations for your convenience. Despite being overcrowded at times, Beijing has a safe and efficient metro system. By using this system, guests help to support public transportation, as well as having a chance to experience real Beijing from a more environmentally conscious viewpoint. From our meeting points we try to walk, ride bicycles or use public transport as much as possible to get to the final destination.
