What is a Scavenger Hunt?

For those who have never participated in a scavenger hunt before, get ready for an exciting, fast-paced, and interesting way to see BeijingCity. A scavenger hunt is much akin to a treasure hunt with time limit restrictions. Upon arrival to our center we will give each participant a list of items, places, or situations that they need to find somewhere in Beijing city and document with their cameras within the time limit of two and a half hours.

How does a Scavenger Hunt relate to Low Impact Ecotourism?

A scavenger hunt is first and foremost a fun way to get people outside, exploring the community, and engaging in friendly competition.   Scavenger hunts can also help participants find new places within the city, and develop one’s sense of direction.  Lastly, participating in our scavenger hunts are inexpensive and are a great way to build teamwork skills.

How to hunt

After guests begin arriving at the office, they will be put into random pairs. If there are an odd number of participants, there will be one one-man team. As soon as all of the teams are organized, the hunt will begin. Participants should try to locate as many items on the list in as little time as possible. This competition requires resourcefulness, speed, and an outgoing personality. As soon as a team finds an item on the list, they should take a picture of it with their digital camera, so as to provide evidence of successfully locating the items on their list.   

How to win

The team that photographs the most number of items on their list in the shortest amount of time is the winner. This does not necessarily mean that you need to locate everything on the list. You just need to find more items on the list than the other teams, and in the least amount of time. So, you could conceivably not find two our three items, but still be winner…as long as you have found more items and are faster than the other groups. However, the slowest team to finish could still be the winner if they finish within the time limit but find more items than all of the other teams.

Prizes

The entry money collected at the beginning of the contest will be pooled together as the prize money.  One winner, one prize.  The more number of entrants, the larger the prize.

Requirements

1. 20RMB entrance fee—You can give this to our staff as you arrive. This fee goes towards tea, snacks, and the prize money for the winners of the contest.

2. A digital camera with blank memory card—Teams will use their cameras to provide evidence that they have completed locating items from the list during the hunt.

3. Contact us beforehand—We need to know how many people are coming.

4. Number of people:  please let us know if you are interested.  The more, the better.
