Retirement Home Caregiver
Join China Reflection as we travel to a retirement center in Beijing’s Jinyu hutong (Goldfish alley). This will truly be a heartwarming experience and will provide a chance for you to give as well as receive. In the morning, you will be side by side with other volunteers as they deliver breakfast to the truly appreciative residents. After eating, you’ll be paired with one of the assistants at the retirement home. You can help them as they assist them as they clean and attend to the tenants needs. It’s amazing what a little effort can do in this situation, as they all know you have come from very far away to be with them. You may find yourself helping someone with disabilities walk, giving massages, or simply just showing pictures of your friends, family, and hometown with one of the residents. If you have a song or talent that you are able to share with them, don’t be shy. The residents rarely get a chance to meet foreigners, much less see and hear them perform. Once again, a little goes a long way. Join other volunteers as they help prepare lunch for the residents, and deliver them to the elderly as they eat. This type of visit is truly at the heart of what China Reflection is about, as it is more about the giving and exchange of communication than it is about the “getting.”
Because China Reflection is devoted to low impact ecotourism, we have arranged our gathering points near metro stations for your convenience. Despite being overcrowded at times, Beijing has a safe and efficient metro system. By using this system, guests help to support public transportation, as well as having a chance to experience real Beijing from a more environmentally conscious viewpoint. From our meeting points we try to walk, ride bicycles or use public transport as much as possible to get to the final destination.
